At the heart of this initiative is the creation of community digital hubs. Placed specifically in underserved areas, these aren't just Wi-Fi access points; they are vibrant physical spaces equipped with reliable internet, modern computers, and dedicated facilitators. For many local youth, these hubs will serve as classrooms, co-working spaces, and a vital first step into the global digital economy.

Equipping Youth for the Future

To ensure these hubs translate access into actual opportunity, Samofal DDD is rolling out a two-tiered training approach:

• Basic Digital Literacy: Covering essential skills many take for granted, such as navigating a computer, browsing the web safely, and communicating via email and professional messaging platforms.

• Advanced Digital Skills: Building on the basics with training in coding, digital content creation, and remote-work readiness—skills that are in high demand worldwide.

"A young person in Garoowe with a real internet connection and the skills to use it is not limited to the jobs available in Garoowe anymore. That's the entire point of this program," explains a Samofal DDD program coordinator.

Expanding Horizons

This initiative reflects a core belief at Samofal DDD: Somali youth deserve tech-driven pathways into the modern economy, regardless of where they live. By prioritizing these hubs in communities already benefiting from the organization's environmental and livelihood programs, graduates can seamlessly blend their practical, hands-on experience with new digital capabilities.

Samofal DDD is currently identifying host communities and partners for this first wave of digital hubs.
